A welcoming space to write, share, and be witnessed—one story at a time. Mondays 6:30–8:00pm starting May 19th.
Join Diana Vitantonio and team for a free summer writing workshop inspired by the Amherst Writers & Artists method.
Writing Ourselves Home:
In this circle, you’ll be met with encouragement, not critique. Whether you’re a lifelong writer or just curious, all are welcome. We’ll use prompts as gentle starting points, but there’s no right or wrong way to show up on the page. Everything shared is treated as fiction, and feedback centers on what’s strong, what shines, and what stays with us. Writing can be deeply therapeutic, especially in a safe, supportive space like this one. Come write what’s calling to you and be witnessed by a community that celebrates your voice.
There is no yoga involved in this class, it is simply a writing workshop. If you do not feel comfortable sitting on the floor you are encouraged to bring a chair to sit on. The writing prompts will come from Pat Schneider’s books Writing alone and with others and how the light gets in. There may also be some writing prompts in the form of poetry and songs.
What to Expect:
This workshop isn’t about being a “good” writer. It’s expressing what’s in your soul, whether it be truth or fiction. It’s about, connection, and the transformation that happens when we put words to the page and are heard. Storytelling lights up the brain—it allows us to feel, process, and even heal. You’ll be invited to write freely, respond to prompts if they resonate, and read aloud if you wish. Everything we share is held with respect, and always confidential.. Expect to leave feeling lighter, more seen, and more connected to your own inner voice. Join us any Monday evening this summer—you belong in this circle.
The Amherst Writers and Artists Writing Method:
The Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) Writing Method creates a space where everyone is welcome to write—if they choose—and where each person is supported and encouraged in their writing. Developed by Pat Schneider and described in her powerful book Writing Alone and With Others, this method fosters a safe, inclusive environment for creative expression. While these groups aren’t specifically therapy-focused, the act of writing can be deeply therapeutic and transformative. As we shape narrative and art from what we often consider the boring—or even painful—parts of our lives, something begins to shift inside. Surrounded by a community of like-minded others who celebrate our words, our inner landscapes are rearranged, sometimes without us even realizing it. With the Amherst Method:
Everyone has a strong, unique voice
Everyone is born with creative genius
Writing as an art form belongs to all people, regardless of economic class or education level
The teaching of the craft can be done without damage to a writer’s original voice or artistic self-esteem
A writer is someone who writes
