The Art of Being With Dying with Joe Barnett
Join Joe Barnett at Yoga Nyla for a workshop that invites you to face mortality with clarity, compassion, and courage. Through a blend of gentle movement, meditation, and reflective practices, you’ll gain tools to be present for yourself and others.
Whether it’s a sudden accident that shrinks a lifespan to days and minutes, or a diagnosis offering only months to “get your affairs in order,” the greatest gift to offer the dying is a hand to hold, an open heart to listen deeply, or someone who can simply sit quietly and offer presence. This workshop is about being that gift. The first step is understanding our relationship with death.
Fear of Death underlies every choice we make in life. It is buried deeply in the body/mind and colors everyone’s personality… and in the worst ways when the fear is buried and never acknowledged. Fear of Death is never abolished, it is hard-wired in the physical and astral bodies of everyone. It has the important and sacred purpose of vigilance, of keeping ourselves and our communities safe. But excessive fear of death prevents us from living fully, and sadly alienates us from loved ones facing imminent death.
The remedy is to invite death to a chat. In this workshop we will engage in some ancient and some modern models for organizing community around death conversations and preparations. This work greatly reduces mortal anxieties, helps us live more fully, and can bring us into more meaningful connection with the dying. If we can be in a decent relationship with death, sitting with those who are facing it will be more easeful.
We will all need community, family, friends whose anxiety around mortality does not obstruct their ability to stay true and present with us through the process of dying. In such community, we could all find a way of loving and living with every breath left.
This workshop will include:
•Death and Rebirth Meditation
•BreathWork & Mantra for Safety and Surrender
•BreathWork & Mantra for Joy of Life Death
•Life Story telling prompts for Death Chats
•Deep Listening Practice
•Yin Yoga
Early Bird Pricing ends January 1- Reserve your spot today.
Yin Yoga For Sleep and Dreaming with Joe Barnett
Insomnia is an epidemic, and modern “grind culture” is obstructing our relationship with the dream worlds essential for the health of both the physical and subtle (astral) bodies. In this class, we’ll tap into ancient and modern understandings of the sleep and dream world, integrating Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep). We settle into poses for 3-7 minutes, slowly relaxing muscles to stretch and stimulate the deeper, drier connective tissues (fascia and joint capsules). The subsequent “rebound” (meditation) draws us toward sleepiness—an optimal state for Yoga Nidra, a consciousness within the liminal spaces between waking and sleeping.
What You'll Leave With: - A toolkit of processes to observe and create surrender in your own bed at home - A renewed relationship with your inner self and your dream worlds.
Investment: $60 | Early Bird: $50 (Book by January 1st)
This practice is a crucial reassessment of our routines, developing sacred rituals for surrendering to sleep.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Deep Yin Yoga: Functional alignment guided by listening to the body to therapeutically stretch connective tissues of the hips and spine.
The Rebound: Meditation after each pose to absorb changing sensations, drawing us naturally toward sleepiness.
Yin & Nidra Integration: Finding consciousness within the liminal spaces between waking and sleeping. Specific Practices Explored:
Ancient & Modern Maps of Consciousness
Breathwork & Visualization for Sleep Surrender
Breathwork & Visualization for Waking - Day & Night Dreamwork
Dream Journaling
YOUR GUIDE Joe Barnett (ERYT-500) has spent two decades studying with Yin founder Paul Grilley. His work provides a deep study of the skeleton, fascia, Meridians, and Chakras, giving him a powerful lens through which to guide this practice.
